The week that was: Running, Golf and getting back into it

Last week was all about getting back into the swing of things, it was my first full week back at work for what felt like ages.  I won’t lie I was so excited to get back to my desk and start getting back into a routine.  Christmas and New Year were incredible but I may have over-indulged just a tad too much.  The three extra kg’s definitely proved that.  So last week was all about getting back to the grindstone.  Reviewing our goals, eating healthy and starting DryJanuary, which I will have you know I have never even considered doing before (yes Christmas and New Year were THAT good).

One thing that has certainly helped Dev and I on the eating healthy front has been one of our wedding presents – a Russell Hobbs Steamer from my new Brother-in-law.  Wow but we are loving it.  I have actually produced almost all our meals this past week – which is rather rare as Dev loves to cook, and I love to let him.  So long may that last, and with this steamer as a cooking option I have a feeling it just might.

Another get back into it activity has been our running programs.  I took a long break which started about 2 weeks before the wedding.  Can you believe I had to stop running before my wedding as I was losing too much weight !!!  It’s true though, I had already ordered all my bridal accessories and suddenly the weight was just falling off me without me even trying, so I had to stop running to avoid all the pre-bought items not fitting properly.  The seamstress for my wedding dress even gave up adjusting the dress size until a few days before the wedding as it was pointless.  When the heck has that ever happened to me and why can’t it be a regular thing?  So anyway we are now both back on a running program, Dev has a big year of running ahead of him and I have a goal I want to achieve too, more on that later.  Needless to say it has been hard getting going again but we feel all the better for it.

Yesterday Dev and I had a date with a difference, no romantic candle-lit dinner, no sweet-smelling roses, instead two sets of golf-clubs, two white golf balls (maybe more) and a golf cart.  That was the romantic side – the golf cart – call me a lazy golfer, I don’t mind, if it adds to my enjoyment of the game then I am not ashamed to use it.  It was a beautiful day yesterday and as I am currently in the process of trying to get a handicap (which I think requires 10 golf scores to be inputted) we took advantage of the sunshine and had a really fun few hours on the Mooi River Golf Course.  Typically Dev played one of his best rounds of golf for a while, shooting 4 under his handicap (this is all lingo I am learning the meaning of), and totally thrashed me.  Not that we were really competing but most importantly we both had fun.  I’d definitely recommend that as a winning date activity!

Other than that we had a fantastic family get-together with my family on Saturday evening, due to an important member of our family having been away over Christmas we had a second Christmas party and my niece and nephew were very spoilt!  As I am on DryJanuary I managed to stop myself totally over-indulging again and we actually kept it very healthy!  You just can’t beat family time, you really can’t.
